Catching Up

Flurry has had some "changes" in the past few months.
He had to be neutered due to some prostate issues, so he has "calmed" down nicely!
So now I hope to get him back into the ring to finish his really excellent title & then move onto Novice Obedience & then finally get that cart on him!

His daughter Topaz (Flurry x Crystal) is on her way to her AKC championship!
She has 3 points now. Congrats to Mike & Janice!!!!

Brinkley (Flurry x Ruby) is on her way to her AKC Rally Novice Title. Earned her 1st leg 9-17-10 with a score of 76.

The vet did see about 3 little ones in there.
They are going back for another ultrasound in two weeks to get a better look.

New Therapy Dog

Today Flurry passed his Therapy Dog test, so now he can officialy participate in therapy dog visits at nursing homes & hospitals, we will probably start to go back to the facilities that I visited with Misha.

He will be "official" now to visit my dad at the facility he is at.

Flurry & I finished his Rally Advanced title down at the Philadelphia Cluster shows on Thursday @ the Penn Treaty KC shows.
We had a score of 89 out of 100, our lowest one yet, but we will take it to finish our RA!!!
He even got a special "New Title" Ribbon.
No show photo, the ring was running 2 hours late & I didn't want to stay for that too!

2nd Leg Rally Advanced

Flurry & I earned the 2nd leg to the Rally Advanced Title on April 10th in Harrisburg at the Blue & Gray Cluster.

We had a score of 97 that was good enough, with our time, to earn 4th place!

Then we went to play in the pretty boy ring for BOB, but there was no chance w/Ty there!

58 degrees out today, so I figured I would brush the dogs & get them cleaned up...won't last for long w/all the mud around. Flurry was done & then he was bouncing around waiting to go to a show....maybe next year he can run on the green carpet, but sadly not this year

Finally the pretty boy ring is done with!
Flurry finished his AKC championship on Sunday at the Ramapo KC show in Augusta, NJ
with a 3 point major under judge Mrs. Polly Smith with me showing him!

So the point totals are....4 major wins (2 BOW) & 3 single points = 17pts

Now we wait & see what OFA rates them, but Dr. King at Steinbach Veterinary Hospital feels we will get "Goods" back on the hips & the elbows will be clear. Fingers are crossed!

U of Penn Blood Mobile

Flurry & Sailor went down to Ft. Washington today to see if they could be blood donor dogs for the University of Pennsylvania.

Sad to say that both Flurry & Sailor do not have the "universal" blood type. Both boys did so well & were good sports. They will have their blood typed & we will get a letter/card from UofP to let us know what type of blood they do have. Sometimes the "on the spot" tests do give a false answer, so they will test the blood back at the lab & we will know for sure what type they do have.

Only 40% of dogs have the "universal" type of blood & can donate they told us.

Here is some more info:

Blood Type:Dogs have many different blood types. One blood type, DEA 1.1 has been shown to cause reactions in the recipient. Therefore, only dogs who are negative for this blood type, "universal donors", are enrolled in our program.

well he did have someplace to go, to the show ring. . .but we had about an hour wait.

But it all payed off with getting our first points for WD 3pt major!

Well finally my 3rd times a charm "show potential male" show dog finally got some points!
Saturday 6/16 at the BrynMawr KC show at Ludwigs Corner, Mr. McFlurry took WD for a 3pt major out of the American Bred class (2 dogs in class). Yippee!!!!!

So now he is know as "dog with points" hee hee!

I will post the photo once it arrives from Perry. . .there was also a guy there taking "action"shots, so I hope those turned out & I will purchase one if it did, since I left my camera at the car. . .

Flurry's Operation

If you have a weak stomach you might not want to look at the "thing" they took out of Flurry.

Back in October after the Watchung Regional, about a week after I found a "mass" in Flurry's neck. I freaked out because the flashbacks came of finding the lump in Snowy's neck & it was Lymphoma. So off to the vet & she drew fluid to send out of a biopsy, but it came out all blood, so now the "mass" was gone. At that time they felt it was a hematoma of the salivary gland.

So as time went on, everytime he would have his choke chain on this "thing" would fill up w/fluid & then go down again. In Feb. when I checked it, it felt like rocksalt in a bag. So took him back in for another check & they felt it was best that the "thing" came out.

So yesterday Flurry went in & Dr. Cummings removed both the sublingular & mandibular salivary glands, but this wasn't any normal procedure, the glands were filled w/stones! So Dr. Danyi looked this up in their online vet archives & could only find one other case documented w/salivary stones in dogs. Dr. Cummings told me on the phone that in his 35 years of practicing he has never seen a mass like this & stones w/the salivary glands. So the "thing" has been sent off to Cornell University for pathology testing to see what this was all about. Hey maybe Flurry & the "thing" will be in a textbook someday.

So here is the photo of the "thing" & Flurry's new haircut.

The little things that look like seasame seeds are the stones, I do not know if there are stones inside of the "thing"

Canine Learning

Flurry went to the LVKC Canine Learing's Match show in Jan.

He was the only "adult" to show so we got BOB by default.

We stayed for groups & that paid off, he won a Group 4 behind a Dobe, Dane & Pyr, pretty good for a silly BMD boy!

I drove down to Maryland to meet Laurie to take my pick of the litter male.
